@hampshire_fa together with the official charity p @hampshire_fa together with the official charity partner of the association, @heh_mind, will launch a fortnightly initiative in December aimed at posing questions in an hourly slot and inviting discussion on several topics relating to mental health.

The initiative will launch on Tuesday 8th December and will again take place on Tuesday 22nd December from 8-9pm as part of a trial run. 4 questions inviting conversation from the Hampshire FA Twitter community will be scheduled and posted on the Hampshire FA channel for members to answer and engage with during the hour slot. The idea behind the initiative is to encourage community and social engagement during difficult times such as another national lockdown and particularly in the winter months, where people are most likely to suffer from season affective disorder.

The slot will finish off with a social media graphic advertising and reiterating the support available from the Havant & East Hants Mind charity together with web and social media links, signposting individuals to further seek support if they feel they require it. We hope to achieve regular social media engagement and expand options for those suffering with mental ill health, allowing the Twitter community to respond with their own ways of coping and tips for dealing with unpleasant and distressing situations whilst simultaneously encouraging personal interaction.

Hampshire FA will be present to like/retweet or respond to any enquiries on the hour slot on both Tuesdays. Anyone seeking additional help who reach out to us on the channel will be signposted at the first opportunity to the Havant & East Hants Mind charity.

Follow HEH Mind and Hampshire FA on twitter to follow the discussion on the 8th and 22nd December.

Havant and East Hants Mind has entered into a two- Havant and East Hants Mind has entered into a two-year partnership with Hampshire FA. Hampshire FA is the governing body for football in Hampshire, committed to developing the game at all levels.

Due to the ever-increasing national media exposure on the topic of mental health, charities such as ourselves are increasingly working, and partnering, with local community leaders. With the recent national interest and our growing local service provision, people are starting to reach out more and more, taking advantage of the many free services that are available. Importantly, companies are increasingly recognising their duty to uphold and protect the welfare and wellbeing of their staff now more than ever. This can be seen with companies investing in Mental Health First Aiders or Connect 5 Champions to specifically recognise and deal with issues as they are known.

Hampshire FA’s partnership with Havant and East Hants Mind was recognised for that exact purpose. The county FA has reached out to form a partnership with HEH Mind, who will be providing extensive mental health and wellbeing support for all staff across each of the hub sites. The county FA already has trained in-house mental health first aiders, and saw an opportunity to extend the work being done behind the scenes by collaborating with a known and respected charity provider.

Additionally, we, HEH Mind will be providing the county FA with a communications plan to implement along with supporting materials so that key messages around mental health are extensively promoted alongside football related news and activities across Hampshire FA’s social media and the website.

This year has been a tough one for us all. The mon This year has been a tough one for us all. The months of lockdown and loss have had a huge impact on our mental health.

According to research carried out by National Mind, we know that more than half of adults (60%) and over two thirds of young people (68%) said their mental health got worse during lockdown. We know that many have developed new mental health problems as a result of the pandemic and, for some of us, existing mental health problems have gotten worse.

Prioritising mental health has never been more important than it is now.
So this year, we want to bring everyone together to mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

Making positive change can seem so hard, especially during uncertain times. And sometimes, it can be hard to know where to start. Whether you want to take the first steps towards getting help or learning about helping those around you, our information, support and our online community will get you started.

Do one thing today. Whether it's going for a walk, learning a new skill or doing something creative, taking the first steps to getting support for yourself, or reaching out to someone else. Take the opportunity to do one thing this World Mental Health Day; that could be downloading our resources, starting a fundraiser, attending one of our training sessions or sharing our services information.

In mental health, as in other areas of life, there In mental health, as in other areas of life, there is a disparity in how black people are listened to and supported at every level. People from black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups living in the UK are more likely to:
- be diagnosed with mental health problems
- be diagnosed and admitted to hospital
experience a poor outcome from treatment
- disengage from mainstream mental health services, leading to social exclusion and a deterioration in their mental health.

We are working to make sure that everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets the support and respect they deserve. As part of our strategies, we are working to make sure our projects and processes include a focus on diverse and/or marginalised communities. We are working to align mental health support with the challenges black people face in a way that’s authentic and engages with the entirety of their lived experience of racism as an everyday reality. We believe that delivering on this ambition involves change within our own organisation, addressing racial disparity within mental health services and continuous working to enable us to deliver on our equality ambitions.

We will be sharing more throughout October, and onwards, on our continuing work to become a more inclusive charity, better equipped to support all members of our local communities.

You can read more about how the Mind Network will be listening, learning and taking action here - https://www.mind.org.uk/about-us/our-policy-work/equality-and-human-rights/our-work-on-race-and-ethnicity-in-mental-health/
