HEH Mind in Collaboration with South Western Railways

Working for the last 25 years in Havant, Hayling Island, and across East Hampshire Havant and East Hants Mind has seen an ever growing demand for support with mental health illness and wellbeing.

This Mental Health Awareness Week (14 to 20 May 2018) Havant and East Hants Mind will be visiting their local communities to promote and start conversations about mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, HEH Mind staff will be signposting visitors to relevant resources.  Julie Parker, CEO of the mental health charity, said “We are delighted to be visiting our local communities to raise awareness about mental health, mental health illnesses and the support available. Additionally, our team of staff and volunteers will be promoting mental health wellbeing, which is important for everyone, whether they are affected by a mental health illness or not.”

Research by Time to Change, Rethink Mental Illness and Mind has shown that one of the most important things to tackle is the stigma surrounding the topic and being able to start conversations about mental health. Havant and East Hants Mind, an independent affiliated Mind charity, hopes to challenge this by visiting local communities during Mental Health Awareness Week.

During the week between Monday 14 and Friday 18 May, Havant and East Hants will be visiting: Bordon Library (Monday), the Meridian Shopping Centre in Havant (Tuesday), Petersfield Train Station (Wednesday), Havant and South Downs College campuses (Thursday) and Waterlooville Library (Friday).

Kim Blake, Station Manager at Petersfield for South Western Railway, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Mind to the station to promote Mental Health Awareness Week. We would encourage everyone passing through the station on Wednesday to stop and chat and find out more about mental health and what we can all do to help each other.”

If you are interested in finding out more about mental health services, volunteering for a mental health charity, or would just like to have a chat about mental health, go along to one of the locations during Mental Health Awareness Week or visit our Wellbeing Centre, details available at www.easthantsmind.org or from Mike Lock, [email protected].
