HSDC Fitness Challenge Raises Funds for HEH Mind

In March, Public Service Students from HSDC campuses came together to participate in a series of physically demanding fitness events, all in support of Havant and East Hampshire Mind.

The events, which ranged from endurance runs to strength-based challenges, were designed not only to test participants’ physical limits but also to raise vital funds and awareness for mental health services in the area. Despite the tough challenge, the atmosphere was one of camaraderie, determination, and mutual support.

Lorna from Havant and East Hants Mind praised the spirit of teamwork on display throughout the event. “You could really see people pushing through the hard moments, not just for themselves, but for each other. It wasn’t just about fitness, it was about solidarity and mental resilience.” As a small charity, Havant and East Hampshire Mind relies heavily on community fundraising to deliver essential services. The funds raised will go directly towards supporting local people living with mental health challenges. But the impact goes beyond the financial. “Every conversation started, every story shared, and every barrier broken helps us reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. That awareness is just as valuable as the money raised. A huge thank you to the students and staff that have been involved in this event, and in HSDC’s support of HEH Mind.”

Over 90 PDS students participated in a series of gruelling challenges to highlight mental health issues, particularly in the services. These included a 1.5 mile run, sit-ups, press ups, a farmer’s carry and battle ropes. Some participants even achieved personal bests, while many spoke of the deep sense of achievement they felt.
A total of £586.00 was raised by the students hard work and commitment to supporting Havant and East Hants Mind.
